PROJECTS

2024 – “Before, the Here and After” collaborative project with visual artists Zeroh, to make generative audio using site-specific field recordings and found sounds based on the environmental phenomenon of Ghostnets – discarded fishing nets that roam the seas, trapping within them the debris, flora and fauna in a perpetual cycle of life and death. Fully autonomous, they forever drift, constantly evolving and devolving – behaviours and systems which they share with generative processes. Commissioned by Bexhill After Dark, with a modified version shown at Sono Electric, Hastings.

2024 – “Out of Service” site-specific commission for Norfolk & Norwich Festival’s digital project Guildhall Sessions, curated by Laura Cannell. Focusing on the Guildhall’s role of Gaol across time, “Out of Service” is an antiquated term describing marginalised people perceived to be operating outside of society, not connected to a household; otherwise earning a living by their own means.  Spoken 17th Century inmates’ names are woven into the verbatim graffiti of the later 1980s cell walls: this way that detainees communicated with each other is a secret, powerful, ongoing conversation that brings these people together across three centuries, their “crimes” unknown, unverified, subject to the power of others, and augmented by a soundscape recorded deep in the vaults, where the sound of the street still seeps in, the “out of service” of today, making their own anonymous contribution.
